Capitainerie

The Port of Brussels is accessible 24/7, 365 days a year. As a maritime port, it naturally has a Port captain. Ours is called Jerry Vanhemelen. If you enjoy strolling along the banks of the canal you are sure to have seen him. Port police, traffic regulation, ship safety... his responsibilities are diverse. He is also responsible for the engineering structures.

The ‘Capitainerie’ (or Harbour Master’s Office) at the Port of Brussels is located at the outport, beside the container terminal.

To support its many activities, it has

  • a patrol boat, our very own Belgian Bruocsella!
  • a rapid intervention Zodiac
  • And 3 cleaning boats, the Castor, Botia and Damona, to provide the best navigation condition for all canal users: companies and citizens!

Boats visiting the Port of Brussels must respect the navigation and safety rules. Notices to skippers issued by the Capitainerie can be consulted on https://www.visuris.be/scheepvaartberichten?KL=en
